What stamp size actually means
Stamp size takes its name from the postage stamp it resembles: roughly 20 × 25 mm, or 2.0 × 2.5 cm. It is not defined by any single authority, so a handful of institutions round it to 22 × 27 mm or ask for a square variant, but 20 × 25 mm is what a photo studio will hand you if you walk in and ask for stamp size without further explanation. At 300 DPI that works out to 236 × 295 pixels — a small file, which is convenient, because the portals that request it usually cap uploads far below the limits a passport application allows.

The gap between stamp and passport is bigger than it looks on screen. A passport photo covers about 1,575 square millimetres against the stamp photo's 500, so trimming a passport print down with scissors removes the ears and the top of the hair instead of scaling the face. Crop tighter, then print and cut
At this size the printed face is barely two centimetres tall, so a wide crop becomes an unrecognisable dot. Zoom until the head fills most of the oval guide and leave only a thin margin above the hair; shoulders are not worth keeping. One 4 × 6 sheet holds around twenty copies and costs the same at the lab as a sheet of eight passport photos, so turn on the cutting border and print the whole sheet.
